Throughout September, Monarch Butterflies will migrate through our region on their way to Mexico for the winter.

To celebrate this special event, join us for a family friendly, multi-activity Monarch Discovery Day hosted by Joette Borzik, of the Potomac Valley Audubon Society

Learn about BAAC’s pollinator fields, enjoy monarch butterfly walks, learn how to net, tag and release monarchs, view live caterpillars and chrysalids, enjoy educational displays with hands–on exhibits and much more! Kids will have the opportunity not only to learn how to net, tag and release butterflies but also to wear butterfly wings in a monarch parade! A coloring table and monarch story time reading will be available.

You can join a 10:00 a.m. bird walk around BAAC property (binoculars available).

A $5 lunch special of 1 slice of cheese pizza, a snack and a drink will be offered.

Meet at the Education Building at The Briggs Animal Adoption Center. All activities will be held in the gazebo, Education Building and surrounding gardens.

A full schedule of activities will be available closer to September 12th. In the event of cancellation , notice will be posted on the Potomac Valley Audubon Site site by 9 p.m. the night before the event. No rain date will be scheduled.

This event is free and open to the public. The BAAC will also be open for tours. For questions, contact development@nhes.org
