In celebration of all that our kind supporters have helped us accomplish over the years for animals; we created a special event that takes place around the date that Anna C. Briggs founded The National Humane Education Society (NHES) on September 15, 1948.
We celebrate the mission of fostering kindness to animals in children and adults and spread awareness about our 70+ year legacy through Animal Rescue, Humane Education,
This year, two beloved NHES traditions are coming together for one special celebration! NHES Founders Day and our Adoption Alumni Reunion will be held on a new date and at a new location.
Join us for our new NHES Paw Bash on Sat. October 17th from 10 a.m.–2 p.m. at the Rotary Pavilion at Poor House Farm Park in Martinsburg, West Virginia. This family-friendly event will feature a Color Run, fall activities, a photo booth, and a special reunion for families who have adopted from Briggs. (Blessing of the Animals TBD).
Annual NHES Events
Doggy Easter Egg Hunt
Each spring, dogs and their families are invited to explore the NHES campus in search of treat-filled Easter eggs. This fun, family-friendly tradition brings our community together while supporting NHES programs that help animals and promote kindness.
Tails on Trails
Tails on Trails invites walkers and runners to enjoy the beautiful State Arboretum of Virginia during our annual 5K and 10K. Proceeds benefit Spay Today, a program of The National Humane Education Society, and support humane, accessible solutions to pet overpopulation.
Dubs and Dogs
Presented by our premier sponsor, Dëutschwurx, Dubs & Dogs brings car enthusiasts and animal lovers together for a summer showcase featuring Volkswagens, Audis, and Porsches from the 1950s to today. This free community event supports animals in NHES’s care, and attendees are encouraged to bring cat or dog food for our emergency pet food pantry.
