Our Animal Care Services Manager, Karry, belonged to an adorable little Sheltie named Shelby. Karry adopted Shelby in May of 2001 and was told Shelby was approximately 10 years old at the time.

It was believed that Shelby had previously been in a puppy mill situation where she was bred over and over for her litters. When she could no longer have puppies and make a profit for the breeder, she was dumped at the local animal shelter.

But all that changed when Shelby and Karry found each other. Shelby was a lively little 20-pund cutie who just began to sparkle when she found her permanent, loving home. She came to work many days at the BAAC and spread her love around.

Karry had 6 ½ wonderful years with Shelby.  Sadly, in December 2007, Karry’s best friend crossed the Rainbow Bridge.  Shelby left everlasting prints on Karry’s heart and many of the employees’ and volunteers’ hearts as well.  Shelby's Slow-Riders was started in memory of Shelby, and Karry, other staff and volunteers will be riding for the animals in her name.
