This name is short for “Porch Kitty Pedalers”. Porch Kitty is our resident cat who has been with us for 3 years. He’s a great cat who gets along with everyone—people, other cats and dogs. PK goes wherever he wants at Briggs and enjoys spending time in the cattery, administrative offices and lobby area. We acquired PK three years ago when we received a phone call from a lady who said she had an injured cat hiding out under her porch. When we saw PK, he looked like he had been hit by a car and was near death. He had lost his left eye and his jaw was badly broken in several places. We rushed him to a nearby emergency clinic for treatment. After he was stabilized, we transported Porch Kitty to another veterinary hospital where they wired his jaw shut and inserted a feeding tube directly into his stomach. In the coming weeks, PK was transported back and forth from a staff member’s home to work every day to ensure he was fed through his tube every few hours. It was touch-and-go for this poor guy for weeks. Following that, PK had to endure two more surgeries to remove broken teeth and reset his jaw but months later, he had survived this terrible ordeal and had won over the hearts of our staff and volunteers. Since Porch Kitty was so wonderful with everyone, we knew he would make a wonderful ambassador and the BAAC became his permanent, loving home. So if you see PK when you’re at the BAAC, give him a pet and say “Hello”. He’s our inspiration! |
