Dinky is a handsome Spaniel Mix.
Dinky's history is not that happy. He was kept on a chain in his beginning year of life so he wasn't able to receive as much of the human contact that he should have received.
We're not sure how Dinky is with other dogs at this point but will be trying him with dogs as time goes along.
Dinky is obedient in that he will sit and give his paw but he doesn't want to give up his chewie easily. We would encourage any adopter to spend time with Dinky and a trainer to teach Dinky to "give" certain toys or chewies up when asked, especially if he would be around children.
It's very possible that Dinky wasn't given very many goodies in his year on the chain so he becomes a little protective when he has something good. However, training by trading one object for another is helpful in a case like this. It's hard to do with younger children, however, so we are a little hesitant at this time to adopt him into a home with young children. If there is one older child and a commitment is made to take him to training class, that may work out fine.
Otherwise, in the short time we've had Dinky, he's been fine with all his caretakers. He is a young dog, so with proper socialization and some training, he should grow into a wonderful companion.
