In Hermans words, I've heard of the term, throw-away society but in my case it was taken much too literally!
Herman was brought to us by someone who saw a duffle bag moving around in a trash dumpster. They opened the bag to find Herman. When he first arrived at the BAAC, Herman was very scared. His fear, along with being in pain from a bad ear infection, caused him to be a little snippy when someone got near his ears. After treatment and many soft-spoken words of kindness, Herman began to relax and crawl into our laps.
It is difficult to determine his exact age and after examining his teeth, which are in fairly good condition, we are estimating him to be over five years of age but probably not by a lot of years.
Yes, it is mind boggling what some people are capable of. But it is even more mind boggling and also rewarding to experience the forgiveness and trust emanating from animals who have been so mistreated.
And, thankfully, there are good people trying to undo the wrongs perpetrated on these animals. That is what keeps us going in this businessthat the inhumanity of some will eventually be defeated by the goodness of others. Thatand wonderful animals like Herman!
