Adoption Process - Briggs Animal Adoption Center

The following information is requested so that your Adoption Counselor can assist you in the selection of a new pet. Our goal is to place animals in loving homes with compassionate people who will make lifelong commitments to them by accepting them as a member of their family. The consultation process is designed to help determine the best compatibility “match” between the pet and adopter(s) lifestyle. This also enables us to determine if the adoption is in the animal’s best interest.

The Administrative fee to adopt a dog is $125.00 and the fee to adopt a cat is $100.00.

Please know that each animal taken into the BAAC receives their initial vaccinations, de-wormings and are spayed/neutered. In addition:

  • All dogs have been tested for Lyme and Heartworm disease (and if found positive, are treated).
  • Dogs are put on monthly heartworm preventative and flea/tick preventative.
  • All cats have been tested for Feline Leukemia and FIV and are re-tested 30 days later to eliminate a false positive or false negative.
  • Cats are given initial flea and tick preventative.
  • Every animal receives de-wormings.
  • Adult dogs and cats have dentals performed as needed.
  • Every animal is microchipped before they leave our facility.

The cost of all that we provide to each animal before adoption far exceeds the $125 (dogs) and $100 (cats) we charge for an administrative fee. Additional costs to our program are: staff care, housing care, showings of animals for adoption and delivery/transport for dogs to their newly adopted homes.  We believe it is very important to make sure that each animal we adopt out has received the best care we can possibly provide.

The average cost to the BAAC is $400 per animal in the first month of care. We also treat many injured animals who arrive at the BAAC and perform the necessary surgeries and treatments, including treatments for common conditions such as ringworm and mange. We do all of this to bring them to their optimal health, which can often run in the hundreds of dollars for emergency treatment.

How can we do all of this and still stay in business? We depend on the support of people who believe in our mission and standard of care for the animals.

All donations received in addition to the administrative fee help us to offset our costs to provide the best medical care possible to these wonderful and deserving animals.    Please consider the amount we’ve saved each new adopter if you are adopting a Briggs animal and add an additional donation when you adopt.

All additional donations add up, no matter how small. And all donations are greatly appreciated.
